Private Tutors

Enhance your child’s performance with a specialist pre-test or entrance exam tutor

Schools in HK have very little knowledge of the entrance exam process and with competition for entrance exams being fierce, a qualified and experienced tutor is vital for success. All entrance exam tutors within our agency are experienced in guiding children through their entrance examinations to the school of their choice.

There are 4 key areas to learn and careful tutoring is imperative to understand the question types and format of the exams. We have a wealth of knowledge of UK schools and exam processes and are ready to help guide your family in this process.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We arranged a tutor a couple of months before our daughter's entrance exams. Despite the short time period, Harriet, the tutor, really helped our daughter. She made really good progress in just a few weeks and was successful in securing places at our schools of choice.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Elite Tutors Sussex is an agency stands out from the crowd for me because it seeks to understand the background of every child and then offers a bespoke program of study, tailor made to suit the individual. I work full time as a Tutor and have had dealings with several agencies and there are only a handful I have come across that seek to promote good communication between the tutor, tutee, parent and the agency. This enables transparency in the learning process with the interests of the child at heart and provides the framework for a positive mindset and for a child to develop their confidence in a subject that they have been struggling with. There are a lot of agencies out there, but few that come close to having the same level of care that is offered by Elite Tutors, so 5 stars from me!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our experience with Elite Tutors has been faultless. We made a last minute application to a school that required my daughter to sit the ISEB Pretest at very short notice. We contacted Helen, she assessed our needs and restrictive circumstances and managed to match us the most wonderful, highly experienced tutor who was perfect for my daughter in every way. We had a short, intense period of lessons combined with face to face and online learning. My daughter has just been invited for an interview at the selective school based on her sound ISEB Pretest results! We are over the moon. I highly recommend Helen and her team!
Note billing and lesson tracking were seamless.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Elite Tutors have been great. Our son’s tutor has been excellent and guided him through the BOFA process in advance of some entrance exams. The zoom lessons work ok and the learning is very organised, and exactly what we were looking for to complement our useless attempts at homeschooling during five months of Covid lockdown. I’ve just booked another ten lessons!

UK Independent and Boarding schools

Applying for a place at a UK independent or boarding school from Hong Kong brings its own pressures. The exam formats can be unfamiliar, interviews are often conducted online or during a short visit, and the curriculum your child is used to may not map neatly onto what UK schools expect.

Elite Tutors Hong Kong supports families through this process from the first assessment through to interview preparation, working with tutors who are qualified UK teachers with direct experience of entrance exam requirements.

What our entrance exam tutors cover

Our tutors prepare students for 7+, 11+ and 13+ entry, ISEB Common Pre-Tests, and Common Entrance papers used by UK independent schools. Sessions cover the core skills tested at each stage: verbal and non-verbal reasoning, comprehension, mathematics, and written composition, alongside the exam technique and timing that make the difference between knowing the material and performing well under pressure.

Benefits of a One-to-One Entrance Exam Tutor

To get the best results it is important that students work with a tutor who compliments their character and learning style. We believe this is key to unlocking potential and giving young people the confidence to excel in their entrance exams.

Preparing for interviews from Hong Kong

Many UK schools now interview overseas applicants online. We help students prepare specifically for this format: structuring answers clearly, feeling comfortable speaking to an unfamiliar adult on screen, and working through the kinds of questions schools commonly ask.

11+ Entrance Exam Tutors

The 11+ is an examination taken by some UK school pupils in their last year of primary school for entrance to competitive independent schools.

We know the importance of being skilled at question types presented in the ISEB Pre-Tests, and individual school entrance exams.

The field is advantageous to students studying in UK prep schools as they are prepared within their school environment. Securing an expert tutor if you live in HK for this level of entrance exam is vital.

There are 4 tests typically used to assess entry to independent schools:

Verbal reasoning
Non-Verbal Reasoning
Maths
English

We understand how competitive it is to gain entry to leading schools. Elite Tutors Hong Kong selects entrance exam tutors who have experience working with the UK’s leading independent schools.

13+ or Common Entrance Exams

The 13+ or Common Entrance exam, taken in Year 8 will be broader than any other exam students at this level have tackled before. As well as English, Maths and Science, students can be required to sit additional papers ranging from French to Religious Studies or Classical Greek. We introduce highly experienced 13+ tutors to help your child with these subjects and to give them the tools they need to secure a place at one of the UK’s leading senior schools.

Starting at the right time

Most families begin preparation [nine to twelve months] before the exam, though we also support students who come to us later in the process. Because every school and every child’s starting point is different, we begin with an assessment of where your child is now and build a plan from there.

FAQs

Which UK entrance exams do you prepare students for?

We support 7+, 11+ and 13+ entry, ISEB Common Pre-Tests, and Common Entrance papers for UK independent and boarding schools. Tutors work from current school-specific requirements rather than generic practice papers.

How does online interview preparation work for families in Hong Kong?

We coach students in structured, confident answers to the kinds of questions UK schools typically ask at interview, and practice this over video call so your child is used to the exact format they will face on the day.

When should we start preparing for UK entrance exams?

[Most families begin around nine to twelve months before the exam, though we work with families who start later too.] We assess your child first and build a timeline that suits their starting point rather than a fixed rule for everyone.

Can tutoring be arranged around Hong Kong school hours and time zones?

Yes. Sessions are scheduled to fit around your child’s school day and family routine in Hong Kong, with tutors accustomed to working across time zones with overseas families.

Do you help with choosing which UK schools to apply to?

[Confirm: do consultants advise on school choice, or is this out of scope and better referred to an education consultant?]

My child's English is strong conversationally but their written work needs work. Can you help with this specifically?

Yes. Entrance exam tutors can focus sessions on written composition and comprehension alongside reasoning and maths, tailored to what your child needs most.
